At sixteen years of age, one should be dreaming of the spring dance, dreading the year end finals, pondering the lazy days of summer, worrying over the start of the new school year – a million things other than whether or not to luff up or whether or not to risk sleeping through the high winds and waves.  But then again, two hundred years ago a sixteen year old was just as ready to venture into the world of expectations and obligations as an 18 year old.  And just because Abby’s dreams don’t mesh with our accepted norms and standards, it doesn’t mean she isn’t just as capable of attaining them as someone two years older.  Does it?
